Many reptiles require a diet based on live or fresh foods, due to their specific feeding habits. Such animals include leopard geckos, bearded dragons, and chameleons. These are readily available, but in themselves do not offer a balanced supply of nutrients. This is because they may contain the wrong calcium to phosphorus ratio, or be lacking in certain trace elements and vitamins. To ensure your pet receives a properly balanced diet, it is important to increase the nutrient content of these foods with a supplement. ReptoCal and ReptoLife are scientifically formulated to provide an excellent source of essential nutrients, to improve the nutrient balance of live and fresh foods.
ReptoCal is a specific calcium supplement, containing 27% calcium along with certain vitamins (including D3). It is used to improve the calcium to phosphorus ratio of live and fresh foods, as they are often too high in phosphorus.
ReptoLife is a complete nutrient supplement containing a range of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. It is an excellent general supplement for improving the overall nutritional quality of live and fresh foods.
Although supplements are usually used according to the specific diet being fed (your reptile specialist will advise you on this), the following general guidelines can be used:
• Live insects should be gut-loaded (pre-fed) with wholegrain bread or TetraMin fish flakes sprinkled with ReptoLife. In addition, once or twice a week they can be dusted with ReptoCal before feeding.
• Fresh foods for herbivores should be sprinkled with ReptoCal and ReptoLife on alternate days. This can be done by slightly moistening the food, and then placing it in a bag along with the required amount of supplement. The bag is then shaken to coat the food.
Always talk to your reptile specialist about which supplements to use, and in what quantities, for your specific pet.
